Red Queen Review

So, I finished reading Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard within the last month. Personally, I really liked the book. However, I have some concerns about the book, and it’s mostly related to its possible influences. I’m pretty sure others who have read the book will agree with me when I say that it seems to be a combination of the X-Men and The Hunger Games. With X-Men, the influence seems to be just that there are people who have abilities and people who do not have abilities, and there is an obvious distinction between the two. With The Hunger Games, the influences, to me, are more obvious. With The Hunger Games, it seems to be that the influences are the idea of people fighting in an arena in front of television cameras for entertainment, and the idea of an underground movement to overthrow the government. I also couldn’t help but notice that the main character of Red Queen has the potential to be the Katniss Everdeen of the book. Personally, based more on The Hunger Games influences, I can’t help but wonder if the author of this book was influenced by The Hunger Games and/or the same things as The Hunger Games author, or if it is all just a big coincidence. In any event, I really liked the book, and would recommend it if you’re a fan of X-Men and/or The Hunger Games.

Mallymkun the Dormouse vs. Reepicheep

With the Alice In Wonderland DVD coming out soon, it made me think about Mallymkun the Dormouse. Mallymkun the Dormouse kinda reminds me of Reepicheep from the Chronicles of Narnia in the sense that the both are loyal and talking mice. In the case of Mallymkun, she’s very loyal to Alice and the Mad Hatter. With Reepicheep, he’s loyal to the Pevensies and Caspian. Anyway, I just thought it was interesting.

The Fight Between Alice And The Jabberwock

I recently watched The Princess Bride and obviously saw the fight between the Dread Pirate Roberts and Inigo Montoya on the Cliffs of Insanity. Anyway, you’re probably wondering how it relates to the fight between Alice and the Jabberwock from Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland. Well, as I was watching The Princess Bride, it dawned on me that the two fights were similar. I say that because both fights start off on a flat surface, then goes up to a set of stairs, and then ends with the winner back on the ground. Anyway, that’s just what I think.

The Jabberwock vs. Chernabog

I rewatched Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland last Saturday to help write a school paper. Anyway, I saw this the first time I saw Alice In Wonderland but it didn’t dawn on me until the second time I watched. Have you guys noticed that the way that the jabberwocky came forward was very similar to the way that Chernabog from Fantasia woke up? To be quite honest, I’m not surprised by that because Disney was involved with both movies.

Mia Wasikowska vs. Gwyneth Paltrow

On the 13th, I went to see Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland as a kill-two-birds-with-one-stone thing. Anyway, as I was watching the movie, I was thinking to myself that Mia Wasikowska reminded me of someone. When I thought about it more, it dawned on me that Mia reminded me of a young Gwyneth Paltrow. I say that because they’re both skinny, blonde, and pale. Anyway that’s just what I think.
