A Bewitching Review

Again, I am doing another book review on a book so I won’t forget what happened in the book, and my thoughts about it. The book I’m going to talk about in this post is Bewitching by Alex Flinn, and you can find a description here. A little forewarning though, I’m going to talk about some spoilers. Overall, I thought that the book was interesting. I really liked how the author incorporated various fairytales into the overall story, especially the one dealing with the Titanic. However, with that comes a warning. You have to know the each of the fairytales to understand the individual stories. The stories that you need to know is Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, The Princess and the Pea, and The Little Mermaid. I also have a small warning for the Little Mermaid. You have to actually read the Hans Christian Andersen version, and not go solely on the 1989 movie. It will make a difference. The substory dealing with The Little Mermaid follows the plot of the original Hans Christian Andersen version much better than the 1989 movie. Anyway, I have a bit of a problem with the overall story. Personally, I don’t like how two of the smaller stories are not directly involved with the Emma storyline or the introduction of Kendra. I mean, I can see the relevance of the other stories to showing how Kendra has good intentions and how it can lead to unfortunate consequences. But I feel like the other two stories are a distraction to the main story of Emma. Anyway, I think that this story could lend itself to be turned into a TV show along the same lines of Once Upon A Time. I also think that if you like fairy tale inspired stories, like Once Upon A Time, you’ll like Bewitching.

Kendra, The Season Three Premiere

I watched the season three premiere of Kendra and all I can say is whoa. I say that because of the whole Mancow thing. When it comes to Kendra’s situation, I think that there’s a fine line between what is socially acceptable for being a mom and being sexy. I mean, I can understand why Kendra would want to still feel sexy. She’s only 25 years old and she looks great, considering that she had a kid. I mean, she’s a MILF! So, why shouldn’t she do something like Playboy again or go to parties and shake her ass? However, she’s a mom now. There will be consequences, good and bad, of the things that she does because of her status as a mom. So, Kendra has to think about the possible consequences. Think about it: what would happen if her son, when he’s all grown up, sees a copy of Playboy with her in it, and it was post-Hank? Not that he necessarily would, but what if he freaks out? Anyway, my point is that Kendra should find a balance between being sexy/free-spirited woman and a mom.
