Thanksgiving vs. Christmas

With Christmas having come and gone, it and having read an article from my school’s newspaper made me think. I find it interesting that at Thanksgiving, we are expected to give thanks for what we have and treasure most, like friends and family. However, as soon as Black Friday rolls around, we’re all about what we want for Christmas, and giving and getting stuff to and from friends and family. Why is it that that attitude changes within one day? I really don’t get it.

Christmas Season Sentiments

I saw this Sally Forth comic some time last month and this is pretty much sums up how I feel when it comes to Christmas stuff going on before Halloween.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment Review

This past Christmas, my friend Bob gave me the book Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson as a present. As a rule for myself, whenever a friend gives me a book to read for fun, I try to read it just in case the friend asks for my opinion on the book. Anyway, I finally got around to reading it back in August and was able to finish it in less than a week. In my opinion, the book is most definitely not the best book I have ever read. Personally, I think that the Twilight series is better, which is not saying much. The reason I say that about Maximum Ride is because the characters lack depth. Granted a few of the characters are young and don’t have much life experience, but I would think that the older characters would have a bit more depth than what was written for them. Anyway, the only thing that is good about the book, in my opinion, is the fact that it is very action oriented. But don’t take my word for it. Read it and form your own opinion.

The Christmas Season

Now that the holidays are over, it made me think. I don’t know why the stores put up Christmas decorations or radio stations start playing Christmas music like one to two months before Thanksgiving. The same thing goes for the Christmas tv commercials. Now, I can understand the commercials if they were to start airing them about one to two weeks before Thanksgiving because of Black Friday. But I think it’s absolutely ridiculous for the stores, radio stations, and tv stations to start with the Christmas stuff like two months before the actual holiday. Anyway, that’s just what I think.
