Radiant Darkness

I just finished reading Radiant Darkness by Emily Whitman last night. I don’t recommend it. I, personally, found it hard to get into. The reason I had a hard time getting into it was because of three reasons. One is the way it was written. I’m not a big fan of books that are written in the present tense. I don’t know why, but I just don’t like it when writers write in the present tense. Another thing was the fact that the characters of Persephone and Hades weren’t, in my opinion, developed enough. I mean, with Persephone, you do get the sense that her mother is overbearing. However, Persephone’s relationship with Hades is minimal at best. It’s the classic love-at-first-sight. To me, it feels like the only reason why Hades is even there is to provide Persephone an excuse to leave her overbearing mother. The last thing is the fact that the ending felt rushed. To me, it felt like the author had her deadline coming up, and was like, “Oh crap, how am I going to finish this story by my deadline? I’ll just BS the end.” Anyway, that’s why I wouldn’t recommend the book.
