Queen of the Damned: The Book vs. The Movie

I watching Queen of the Damned the other day and thought back to the book. Personally, I think that the movie is crap compared to the book. I think that because of a lot of things. The major thing that I have a problem with is that the story of the twins was taken out. How could the writers just omit the story of the twins? Their story was the main plot in Queen of the Damned. I would say the Lestat/Akasha storyline was secondary. The second thing that I have a problem with is that so many characters were just left out and/or killed off. The only characters that were actually killed in Queen of the Damned were Enkil, Akasha, Azim aka the vampire from the mountain, Baby Jenks, and plus a whole lot men and fledgling vampires. The last thing I have a problem with was the details. There are so many things that the people got wrong. Lestat, Marius, and Mael are supposed to be blond and blue eyed. Pandora was not from India. Maharet has a twin, the mother many times over of Jesse, and maker of Jesse. Lestat was turned by Magnus, not Marius. All I can say is that the only thing that the movie and the book had in common was the names. The only positive thing I can say about the movie is that the music was very appropriate for the movie and book.

The Nomadic Vampires vs. The Cullens

I was thinking about what makes people like the Cullens more than the nomadic vampires from Twilight. I was thinking about it because I was watching the extras from the 2 disc DVD set. Anyway, in the extra that I watched talked about the vampires. The point that was brought up was that when it comes to the vampires in Twilight series and what they do, it all boils down to choices. With the nomadic vampires, they embrace who and what they are, by drinking human blood and going anywhere and everywhere that they need to go. The Cullens, on the other hand, abstain from drinking human blood and live in just one place. The choices basically boils down to whether or not you want to conform, like the nomadic vampires, or be rebellious, like the Cullens. So, in that sense, I can see why people like the Cullens more than the nomadic vampires, and not to mention, the series as a whole because of the romance factor. Personally, I don’t like the Cullens in all of their choices, except one. Well, first off, the one choice that I don’t mind is that they don’t drink human blood. Anyway, the main reason that I don’t like the Cullens overall is that they’re trying to be humans when they’re not humans anymore. In essence, they’re trying to be something that they’re not. I think I would have liked the Cullens more if they were more in the middle ground. What I mean is that they can maintain their diet of animal blood instead of human blood, but they should also realize that they can’t really change the fact that they’re vampires and not humans. Anyway, that’s just my opinion.

School’s Back In Session

I found this comic strip in my school’s newspaper yesterday and cut it out. This is how I feel when it comes to having to start the new semester.

Writing In Diaries

I found this comic strip in my school’s newspaper sometime ago and cut it out. This is how I feel when it comes to writing in diaries or journals.

The New Moon Clip

I recently watched the New Moon clip where Bella tells Jacob that he’s “sorta beautiful.” When I saw that part of the clip, I was thinking, Is that really his body? Or is it that his head was put onto someone else’s body? I’m sorry but to me, it looks like Taylor Lautner’s head was digitally put onto someone else’s body and it was edited weird. And if it was, I would have been disappointed at Chris Weitz because of what I saw in The Golden Compass. Anyway, that’s just my opinion.

My 21st Birthday

I recently turned 21 and had my first alcoholic drink. For my first drink, I had a chocolate martini from one of the local Tony Roma’s. All I can say is that my mom was right when it came to alcohol: it’s an acquired taste. To me, the chocolate martini tasted like cough medicine and had an after kick of maraschino cherries, the kind of cherry that’s used for sundaes. Personally, I think it was the combination of alcohols that were used to make the drink taste like cough medicine. Anyway, a piece of advice for all the alcohol virgins out there, get a fruity drink for your first drink.

Summer Review

I was looking through my previous posts recently, and I realized that I haven’t really written that many posts dealing with my personal life. Anyway, up until about a week ago, I was in summer school taking cross-cultural psychology. I really enjoyed the class as opposed to my astronomy class. I was thinking about my experiences with both classes. I noticed that with the astronomy class, it felt like the class dragged on forever. On the other hand, with the cross-cultural psychology class, the six weeks went by so fast that I was like, What? The class is over already? I honestly felt like it was two separate summers. Although I wonder if it’s partly because I have more interest in psychology than in astronomy. Plus, I was counting down to my birthday. Anyway, that’s just my thoughts on my summer.
